10:2 Then Shecaniah son of Jehiel, from the descendants of Elam, ³  addressed Ezra:

“We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying ⁴  foreign women from the local peoples. ⁵  Nonetheless, there is still hope for Israel in this regard. ⁶

9:4 Everyone who held the words of the God of Israel in awe ⁷  gathered around me because of the unfaithful acts of the people of the exile. ⁸  Devastated, I continued to sit there until the evening offering.

his loyal love toward Israel is forever.”

All the people gave a loud ¹⁰  shout as they praised the Lord when the temple of the Lord was established.

6:12 May God who makes his name to reside there overthrow any king or nation ¹¹  who reaches out ¹²  to cause such change so as to destroy this temple of God in Jerusalem. I, Darius, have given orders. Let them be carried out with precision!”

8:22 I was embarrassed to request soldiers and horsemen from the king to protect us from the enemy ¹³  along the way, because we had said to the king, “The good hand of our God is on everyone who is seeking him, but his great anger ¹⁴  is against everyone who forsakes him.”

Ezra 9:2

9:2 Indeed, they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy race ¹⁵  has become intermingled with the local residents. Worse still, the leaders and the officials have been at the forefront of all of this!”

Ezra 10:6

10:6 Then Ezra got up from in front of the temple of God and went to the room of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. While he stayed ¹⁶  there, he did not eat food or drink water, for he was in mourning over the infidelity of the exiles.

[4:11]  ¹ tn The Masoretic accents indicate that the phrase “to Artaxerxes the king” goes with what precedes and that the letter begins with the words “from your servants.” But it seems better to understand the letter to begin by identifying the addressee.
